The art of suffering

18 June 2009 No Comment

In what is becoming my usual style, I injured myself at the worst moment yesterday. That was about twenty minutes in to the photography evening at Durham Cathedral. Whilst I tried to hobble about for a bit, in the end I gave in. My concentration on composition was fuzzy and the frustration at being able to bend or move to get the photographs I wanted was just too much. Thankfully the Cathedral has an abundance of hard benches to sit on, perfect for minimizing pain whilst watching others snap away.

Before I gave up I did manage to get a few shots (more of which you can see on my page on Flickr)

I also got to step on the hallowed turf at the centre of the cloisters. Is it wrong to be in the holiest of places getting excited at standing where Harry Potter (well Daniel Radcliffe) et al have stood in the past?

At least my injury has given me the time to finally set up a Flickr account (surely a must for all photographers?). Also in my usual positive, optimistic manner it has made me count my blessings that for a majority of time I am fit, healthy and able to do what I want. I can’t wait until I can change a DVD again without it feeling like a comedy sketch!
