50 is not the new ‘Old’

On Thursday evening in the MJ Twitter overload I sent out the tweet “Wasn’t a huge Jacko fan but he was a music legend… It’s sad he’s died so young.” To which I received the reply “not that young and he was 50”.
I was horrified. Horrified at the idea that 50 was old. At the age of 26 I am now over half way there, but most definitely not halfway to being old. Sure I might develop a few wrinkles and grey hairs over the next 24 years but there …

Global Media and Iran

Last night Twitter exploded at the sad news of Michael Jackson’s death. It is impossible to deny, whatever your opinion on him as a person, that he was a musical legend. As we saw with Diana’s death (which it is being compared to) human nature is such that the reaction by the public and media is going to be huge and will last for quite some time. As I saw the tweets fly by I noticed one that mentioned Michael Jackson was all but one of the current trending topics …

No guru needed…

I just read another article regarding what women need to do to succeed in business. And I got bored…
I believe in the power and skill of the individual, regardless of gender, sexuality, race or religion. It is true that some businesses still make life hard for people to progress on one or more of these areas of discrimination, but that is where choice, personality, skill and drive come in.
I believe that if I had made the choice to stay in the career I was formally in I would have achieved …

The art of suffering

In what is becoming my usual style, I injured myself at the worst moment yesterday. That was about twenty minutes in to the photography evening at Durham Cathedral. Whilst I tried to hobble about for a bit, in the end I gave in. My concentration on composition was fuzzy and the frustration at being able to bend or move to get the photographs I wanted was just too much. Thankfully the Cathedral has an abundance of hard benches to sit on, perfect for minimizing pain whilst watching others snap away.
Before …

Weird Monday

Today has been a strange day… so strange indeed that I am blogging twice in one day.
Everything seemed fairly normal until after lunch when I traipsed around the library with the photographer trying to find students to take photos of in a library setting. The only weirdness in that is that you usually don’t spend a Monday being a prop in photos (to think I may feature in Durham University prospectus – enough to scare any potential student off!)
Settling back down to get work done there was a bright …

What a twit!!!

I joined Twitter on the 4th February 2009. In the 131 days since I’ve found that Twitter has the marmite effect – people love it or hate it. It has provoked debate, discussion and almost argument both on Twitter and in real life. Work related Twitter (@DROdurham) has really caused a stir and split of opinions at work.
From a personal point of view I don’t understand why people feel the need to tell me I’m wasting my time or telling people too much about my life. Why do people care …

It’s raining, it’s pouring…

I haven’t had the best of weeks. It started of very promising as I bounced into work early on Monday morning. The sun was shining and I’d had a lovely weekend. However just like the weather, it has gone downhill from there.
It’s just been one of those weeks where everything comes to a head. There’s been a couple of annoying situations at work (that’s the edited description of it). That bad feeling grew into snowball of crap, which along the way decided to unearth horrible feelings associated with my last …

Happy Belated Birthday

Sunday before last (I know I’m a little late with the blog!) I celebrated my twenty-sixth birthday and there are usually a few things you can guarantee on or around the date of the 24th May.
The first is sunshine. Every year without fail it has been sunny for whatever birthday celebration or event is planned. When I was little it stayed dry for obsticle courses and treasure hunts. On my 16th I sat in the backgarden revising for a GCSEs. On my 18th we took a break from revision …
